Vanagon concerns / Re: Rev-Limiting Rotor Question

Hello forum members. I signed up on LIMBO, recently having acquired a 1984 Vanagon camper in great shape, so am easing my way through on the learning curve thanks to forums like this.
Here's my question - can a Rev-limiting rotor be used on a 1984 (and presumably newer) distributor? A local VW mechanic recommended that I get one that limits the Revs at the distributor to 4500 rpm as a safety precaution since the engine is very quiet and there is no tachometer. The only one's I found online are for older 1970's VW distributors but my mechanic says they will work on the newer ones. Can anyone verify or has experience with this?
you can use rev-limiting rotor also on a -84 engine
and you can get one from here

N.B this one only suit distributor driveshaft diameter of 14.4mm (everything except Digifant injection)
