Wow, this post was from 3 years ago. Rich, you were right, the rubber brake lines were clogged. I replaced them. All good now! Thanks everybody!

Vanagon concerns /« on: April 20, 2012, 05:41:41 PM »
If it's like the gas engine, when you bleed the radiator, you have to jack (raise) the front of van about 6'' off the gound to get all the air out.

Good soundtrack! That bus looks harder to build than I thought. The Legos are a little more specialized than they were when I was young.

Vanagon concerns /« on: August 23, 2010, 07:47:20 PM »
I have run out of gas in the past, but when I filled up the tank, it started right up after a couple cranks. Perhaps your fuel filter got clogged with sediment from the bottom of tank. Pull the rubber hose off after the fuel pump to make sure its pumping.

Is your van a 1.9 or a 2.1, because there are differences as a 2.1 would not be a drop in swap.
I have a rebuilt engine (2.1) out of a '91 that I put about 5000 mi on, with brand new heads, water pump, pistons, rings, hose, ect. that burns a little oil (about 2 quarts every 3000 mi. of 10-30w). It might do better with thicker oil, but I did not give it a chance as I put a Subaru engine in my van. I want $1000 firm as I invested over $3000 in it and its worth more in parts. I'm on Long Island NY Brad 631 786-3121 12
Vanagon concerns / CV joints« on: February 21, 2010, 01:17:47 PM »
I have a CV joint getting pretty noisy lately. I bought a set of new Empi axles from Van Cafe that were made in China. Would you install them on your vehicle? Has anybody used them?

Vanagon concerns /« on: December 30, 2009, 05:02:51 PM »
Simply pull the engine out of your Subaru, buy a kit from Small Car, and install in Vanagon. Done................Really, It is a little harder to switch a water cooled than an air cooled. If your paying someone to do it, it wont be cheap. I know where there is a freshly rebuilt 2.1 with many new parts (including heads) that uses a little oil, for sale.

Thanks, I didn't think about the E brake. I did use it before they locked up. I will do some exploring this weekend.

Split bus concerns / Brake stuck« on: December 02, 2009, 08:03:36 PM »
I noticed my Single cab was lacking power, I get home to find the rear brake smoking, red hot. I jack it up and the brake is stuck on. I didn't take it apart yet but it has new wheel cylinders , spring kits and fluid replaced (about a year old) What is the problem and what will I find when I take it apart?
