The Pope's Volkswagen

Pope Benedict XVI has been presented with a special version of the Volkswagen Phaeton by Bernd Pischetsrieder, Chairman of VW's Board of Management.

The 450bhp six-litre W12 Phaeton is one of the long-wheelbase models, and according to Volkswagen it has been "specially equipped to meet the comfort, privacy and security requirements of the Holy Father".

The Pope is no stranger to Volkswagen products. In the days when he was known as Cardinal Josef Ratzinger he owned a Golf which was subsequently sold on eBay for just under €190,000.
