Hello all<br> Recently my teenage son overheated his 1970 bus and the motor is likley gone. I will deal with him seperatly but my options are a Boston Bob Engine or one in a box from California. Bob's engine is about $300 more but seems to be built better and he seems to be able to offer some tech help. I am located in South Carolina so shipping is about the same. Just trying to decide which route to go. Also the Engine coming out is a single port and I will be installing a dual port engine, any tips on this would be helpful. Also just a note, I have about 8000 miles on my 88 wolfsburg since converting to a aba inline 4 cyl done by The Autobahn Society in Georgia and this is the way to go, runs great and plenty of power with about 24 mpg in town.

all i know is my engine from boston bob is is great shape,there are a lot of shops that use only his engine for one reason .quality . everone forgets that it's a small repair shopwith a high turn around. he only has 2 helpers. and does most of the work him self.there might be a small problem every now and then , due to volumeand ordersthat have to be filled . i know ken at van-again only uses his engines and the same from gary's in mass. i only hope that he can pass his knowlage on to his kids so that we all can get a good engine from someone.

I've been real happy with three motors that Boston Bob has built for me over the years:<br><br>1) 1600cc dual port in '74 bug, sold car with engine still running strong years ago.<br>2) 2000cc Type IV motor in my '81 Westy, have over 50K miles on it and still going strong<br>3) 1600cc dual port in '65 bus, installed last summer, have about 5k miles on it and it cruises the highway at 65-70 mph with stock transmission and reduction boxes. I took it on an 800 mile trip down to NJ this summer and don't recall ever even opening the engine compartment lid. It uses no oil, doesn't leak and runs real well. I did the install myself.<br><br>I would definitely buy a motor from Bob again. Of course it also helps that he lives in the same town as me, so delivery charges are not an issue. <br><br>He'll probably recommend a counter-weighted crank for a bus motor. I went with that route for mine for increased longevity. It adds about $200 to the price. You may also want to consider a new clutch kit and maybe a new exhaust, if the old one is rusty.<br><br>-Stan

I have never used Boston Bob, but I can tell you that I read far more good things about him than bad.<br><br>Rommel linked to one bad thing.  Keep that in mind. <br><br>Good luck!
