In North Georgia
« on: April 26, 2004, 02:45:28 PM »
Good quasi-boondocking. There is a parking area at the base of Blood Mountain (the Byron Reece trailhead to be specific). You pay $2 and can sleep in your bus next to a babbling brook (don't drink to much water before bed with that rushing water sound so close). Says no camping, but we were just sleeping in our "car." Then wake up and climb the mountain. ;)

BTW, BM is the highest point on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail at 4,458 feet, and offers some incredible views of the surrounding region.

Off hwy 19 near Vogel State Park and Blairsville.
