Question: Camping tips for Baja/ Upcoming trips to Baja

I am planning a trip to Baja California this winter in my '84 Westy and would like to meet up with other VW folks that might be going there. I will be getting surgery down there and want to recuperate on the beach somewhere in the safety of other Vw owners. I have traveled extensively throughout Mexico and Latin America but have never taken a vehicle there so I am leary of theft, accidents, breakdowns, etc. If any of you have camped in Baja, I would like your advice. You should contact Frank Condelli.  He and a group of friends of his make a trip to Mexico every winter.   They should be getting ready to leave within the next month or so.
