Need a wasserboxer 1.9 or 2.1
« on: May 13, 2010, 09:20:14 PM »
Hello!

I'm looking for a used 1.9 or 2.1 wasserboxer in running condition.  I really just need the core.  It would really help me out.  My girlfriend and I are stuck on Cape Cod without a working engine (long story).  Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you for your time.

I'm not sure if you have transportation. But if you do, you may find an engine at John's Car Corner in Westminster, VT.   802-722-3180.

They are very rare to find in running condition.

Also try a TLC VW in Nassau, NY.  518-766-5654.  Ask for Andrew.

You can also try Stan's Classic Service, in Natick, MA 508-333-7813.

There is a chance that Gordi Davis might have an engine as well.  He's in Keene, NH  603-313-5333.

These are the guys I call when I get into a jamb.   Good luck.

Is your van a 1.9 or a 2.1, because there are differences as a 2.1 would not be a drop in swap.
I have a rebuilt engine (2.1) out of a '91 that I put about 5000 mi on, with brand new heads, water pump, pistons, rings, hose,  ect. that burns a little oil (about 2 quarts every 3000 mi. of 10-30w).  It might do better with thicker oil, but I did not give it a chance as I put a Subaru engine in my van. I want $1000 firm as  I invested over $3000 in it and its worth more in parts.  I'm on Long Island NY

Actually, Brad, the differences between the 1.9L and the 2.1L are internal.  Physically, they are the same on the outside.  Just use the external componets, intake, exhaust and cooling systems are different.

So, if they got your engine, and they have a 1.9L bus, they would have to put the waterpump (and cooling system componets), throttlebody and exhaust from their engine onto your engine.

However, they maybe able to get away with the 2.1L exhaust-which is better flowing and simpler BTW- if they use an engine carrier from a 2.1L.

I'm not sure whats still on your engine.  But I'm thinking since you installed a Subaru engine, then you probably have everything that was connected to the waterboxer still on it.  As I understand the conversion, most of the waterboxer stuff isn't needed.

I'm done work now, I'm going home... its 815Pm 5/18  I'm tired.
