Vanagon seats in a bay
«
on:

I have heard that vanagon seats would slide right into the bay window tracks. I now have two Vanagon seats and they don't slide in, must I alter the seats or am I missing something?

Pete were you drinking? I have 90 seats in my 82, and I have seen Vanagon seats in a bay. Just never tried it myslef, yes they are suppose to go in same tracks. I know the swivels are the same track from 76 to 91. Take the swivel off your wifes seat turn the seat up side down and try it that way. They can be a bear to start sometimes, I know I have had some hassel with them. Hope this helps and no you can not go south this year. later The Con Kid

The Vanagon seats have two rails on each side while the bay seats have just one rail on each side, it looks like I would need to cut the second rail off of the vanagon seats for them to slide in. And we will be going south for a few weeks this winter. Oh yes I had the one or two

I will have to take your word for this as my Vanagon is covered for the winter. So whats the problem get the cut off wheel out and (just get er done) the seats are way worth it. Next if you go south you better send photos! I hate you, Love The Con kid

They slide right in... I helped a friend do it a few years back after his bay seats were on hospice. Id love to do it to my bay but would have to get them reupholstered in the green/yellow plaid to match the rest of my interior... Plus, theyd look sweet, and an armrest would be SICK! LOL

I found out at West river westys that in 77 or 78 the seat rails changed in a bay window. My 76 has two ears sticking out to the sides of the seat while the newer bay windows have a rail welded in that the mating seat rail sits down over the top of. Very distinct from each other.

Hi Pete, I believe there was a change 1/2 way through 1976.
I am pretty sure that 76 1/2, with VIN 216 2078 000 or later will accept Vanagon seats.
Our 77 and 78 both can use them, as the 78 has them and I have tried them in our 77.
